My First Android App: Random Bible Verses
How my 2 day freetime became an Android app
I used 2 day free time at office to study Android development. I thought it would be hilarious to learn and upload my first app on my free time and surprise my co-workers.
I never really have been able to learn Android developer until I tried Treehouse
. With it's unique kind of teaching and a special IDE by JetBrains, Android Studio. It appeared to me that it was so easy after all. It was just some Java files and some XMLs.
About the app
The tutorials teaches how to make a simple app that pops a random "fact" everytime a button is clicked. I went off-track while he was teaching and did something else, using his instructions as guide.
Now instead of "facts" I made an app that show bible verses and instead of a button, make the whole screen clickable. This might not be a cutting edge app idea around but this isn't a bad start is it? Also it's smart watch compatible.
Playing around with Google Play
I was surprised though that Google play had too many requirements before I was able to publish my app. It needed a bunch of screenshots on different devices and needed some graphics (like the 'feature graphic" above) before you can post an app. And also, before you can register for a developer account on Google play, you need to pay 25$. Like a registration fee. I complied anyway.
I got so excited that I am thinking that I may develop more seriously in the future. I find Android development more amusing than web development maybe because it's more graphical. Or maybe I just got used to web development and want something new. Maybe after or while I finish the Android development track on Treehouse
is a website where you can easily learn Android development, Web Development and Other stuffs like Web Design. They have video tutorials, quizes and practical tests.
I use it to train people and for me to learn more. Get 50% off when you register: Click here
